Is Spirituality and Gambling Compatible?

Have you ever considered spirituality and gambling? If not, then perhaps this is the perfect time to start thinking about it. After all, there is nothing wrong with having a little fun on occasion, but what is problematic is allowing excessive gambling to take over your life. Gambling can cause you to lose sight of your goals and put yourself in situations that are spiritually unhealthy. In order to keep your spirituality intact and to steer clear of the destructive effects of gambling, you need to lay down some rules and boundaries.

Lay down some ground rules that will allow you to maintain a sense of spirituality and to avoid self-destructive behavior. Set some limitations as to how much money you can spend on gambling, as well as other spending habits. Create some short term and long term goals for yourself and monitor your progress towards these goals.

As you become more aware of your relationship to gambling and your spiritual health, you will be able to make better choices. Are you gambling because you feel like you need to do something to validate yourself, so that you can feel good about yourself? Do you feel like the line between winning and losing is irrelevant?

If so, you have a problem. You do not have to accept losing as a part of life. Gambling does not have to mean that you will lose your sense of reality or even put yourself in danger. You can increase your chances of winning by setting goals for yourself. These goals should include goals concerning your spiritual health and wellbeing.

The next step is for you to stop playing. Stop spending your hard earned money on binges. This will help you keep your priorities in check. Make a point to come back and play once in awhile, but forgo gambling all together. This may be difficult to do at first, as we all tend to crave immediate rewards. However, over time, as you begin to feel better and truly enjoy your gambling experience, you will find it easier and less tempting to engage in it.

It is important to remember that if you are suffering from any addiction, whether it is gambling or any other, you need to seek help. Your long term health and well being depend on it. Find a therapist who is able to work with you in regards to your gambling issue, and do not be afraid to get help if it is needed.
